As the sump pump can move around inside the basin, the float can get stuck against the side, which then does not allow the switch to turn the pump on. There could be a few reasons why your sink will not hold water, but the most common reason is that your pop-up drain or basket strainer is worn. Over time, these essential parts will start to strain over continued use due to hair, foreign matter and scum. There is a fix, and Fry can tighten your assembly nut, which connects your lift rod and waste mechanism to give some new life to your drain. For your outdoor faucets, before the deep freeze sets in, close off the shut-off valve for those specific pipes. You will then open up the faucets, drain out any existing water and leave it till the spring. In the spring, you will then open the shut-off valve and check for any leaks or issues.
For indoor faucets that often freeze, we suggest leaving your cabinet doors open to warm air from your home and, in some cases, allowing a slow trickle of water to keep the water moving in the pipe. You can also look to work with Fry to insulate your pipes to help eliminate any more issues moving forward. This is especially important if you are leaving your home for any significant amount of time during the winter. As the last thing you want to deal with is a burst pipe after a warm-weather vacation.
