High Velocity or Low Velocity Air Conditioners?

High Velocity or Low Velocity?

When it comes to air conditioning, there are two main types of systems to choose from: high velocity and low velocity. Both types of systems have their own unique advantages and disadvantages, so it's important to understand the differences between them before making a decision.

Low Velocity Air Conditioners

Low velocity air conditioners, also known as conventional air conditioners, are the most common type of system found in homes today. These systems use traditional ductwork to distribute cool air throughout the home. They typically require larger ducts and a more complex installation process, which can make them more expensive to install and maintain.

However, low velocity air conditioners are known for their ability to cool larger spaces quickly and efficiently. They also tend to be more reliable and have a longer lifespan than high velocity systems.

High Velocity Air Conditioners

High velocity air conditioners, on the other hand, use smaller, more flexible ducts to distribute cool air throughout the home. These systems are designed to be installed in older homes or homes where traditional ductwork is not possible. They are also a popular choice for homes with smaller rooms or spaces.  One advantage of high velocity air conditioners is that they are often less expensive to install than low velocity systems. They also require less space for ductwork, which can be a major advantage in homes with limited space. However, high velocity air conditioners can be less efficient than low velocity systems. They also tend to be louder, which can be a consideration for homeowners who value peace and quiet.

Which is Better?

Ultimately, the choice between high velocity and low velocity air conditioners comes down to your individual needs and preferences. Low velocity systems are often a better choice for larger homes or spaces, while high velocity systems are ideal for smaller homes or spaces. They can also be a good option for older homes or homes where traditional ductwork is not possible.
